Hutchison Telecommunications (Australia) Limited (Hutchison) is a listed
company which has a 50 percent interest in Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Limited
(VHA).Hutchison Whampoa Limited (HWL) is the majority shareholder
of Hutchison.
In 2003 Hutchison, through the 3 brand, introduced Australia's first third generation
(3G) mobile telecommunications network.
On 9 June 2009, Hutchison and Vodafone Australia merged their telecommunications
business (3 and Vodafone) in a 50:50 joint venture called Vodafone Hutchison Australia
Pty Limited.
By merging, VHA is a much larger scale business that operates under both the 3 and
Vodafone brands in Australia. VHA now has more than
7.2 million customers, revenues of $4.8 billion, a market
share of 26 percent and provides customers with an even greater choice of affordable
products and services.
The merger also brings together the combined global expertise, scale, research and
development capabilities, and support of Vodafone Group Plc and HWL to provide the
best possible service experience to Australian customers.
