Hutchison Telecommunications (Australia) Limited (Hutchison) is a listed company which has a 50 percent interest in Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Limited (VHA). Hutchison Whampoa Limited (HWL) is the majority shareholder of Hutchison.
In 2003 Hutchison, through the 3 brand, introduced Australia's first third generation (3G) mobile telecommunications network.
On 9 June 2009, Hutchison and Vodafone Australia merged their telecommunications business (3 and Vodafone) in a 50:50 joint venture called Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Limited.
By merging, VHA is a much larger scale business that brought the 3 and Vodafone customers together under the Vodafone brand in Australia. VHA now has more than 6.6 million customers, annual revenues of almost more than $4.1 billion and provides customers with an even greater choice of affordable products and services.
The merger also brings together the combined global expertise, scale, research and development capabilities, and support of Vodafone Group Plc and HWL to provide the best possible service experience to Australian customers.
